NASA's Early Career Faculty (ECF25) grant, part of the Space Technology Mission Directorate's 2025 space technology research initiative, invites proposals from U.S. universities on behalf of eligible early-career faculty. The grant supports tenure-track Assistant Professors (U.S. citizens or permanent residents) who are not yet tenured, aiming to establish academic careers focused on space technology.
This year’s proposals must address one of two specific topics:
1. Advanced diagnostics for high-enthalpy test facilities simulating spacecraft atmospheric entry. 2. Machine learning for autonomous spacecraft planning, enhancing onboard guidance, navigation, and control.
Only U.S. universities accredited to grant degrees may apply, and each PI may submit only one proposal. Co-Investigators are not allowed, though non-NASA collaborators are permitted.
Up to six awards are expected (starting January 2026), depending on proposal quality and available funding. Notices of Intent are strongly encouraged by June 10, 2025, and full proposals are due by July 10, 2025, at 5 p.m. Eastern time via the NSPIRES platform.
